March 25 MY FAVORITE INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT DRILL Whether you are looking for off-season workout drills, or are a travel, select, or AAU coach looking for drills to do in practice, I highly recommend this drill. It helps players develop the ability to shoot at game pace and adds in the dimension of shooting pressure free throws. Players like it because it is competitive. In the video, the player makes each of the three shots on his first try. The text on the page with the video explains that the player shoots each distance shot until he or she makes all three distances. It is a youtube video, so if your server blocks those, you will need to view it somewhere where you can access youtube. Two Minute Drill
March 24 BALL SECURITY DRILL
I like this drill better than the "Keep Away Drill." I like the fact that the defense has to do three push ups if they don't get a deflection. One variation you could run would be to not allow the offense to dribble. I also think it is a good idea to make the receiver do three push ups if they do not meet the pass by jumping toward the ball. In my opinion, meeting every pass is another key in your team's ball security, or as Dick Bennett calls it, "Sureness." I really like that term. Ball Security Drill

March 5 COMPETITIVE DEFENSIVE DRILL Here is a competitive defensive drill from Geno Auriemma where the player has to make a one on one defensive stop to get out of the drill.
To make the drill more even more competitive and quick moving than what the short video shows, split your team into groups of five using as many baskets and coaches as you can. I think it is best to make the players in each group as similar in ability as you can. The drill is scored like golf. Each time a player goes on defense, he or she gets a point. So, if they make the stop the first time, they only get one point (hole in one in golf). If they have to go five times and get their defensive stop, then they get five points.
After 4 "rounds" where each player has been on defense four times, the low score wins. That also gives incentive for the offense to work to score because they are putting points against the players they are competing against within their own group.
I like the setup with the two offensive lines so that the defender has to change sides of the floor if they have to go again. Geno Auriemma Defensive Drill
