This is a good idea for a drill that can be adapted to your system.
I like the drill and some of the teaching points that the coach makes, but I would make a few adjustments to fit our overall philosophy. Really, that is how it is with any drill or idea, it has to be tweaked and adjusted to fit your system.
I like to have the extra players involved in other drills rather than standing around, but that is more of a personal preference.
Another point I would make is that I would rather not develop the habit of having players shoot challenged shots in drills because we don't want to shoot them in games. There is a size mismatch in this drill and the offensive player is able to get shots off over the smaller defender. My feeling is that a challenged shot is not a good shot, even if it goes in, so I would rather not shoot those in practice. In my opinion, throwing the ball out to a coach who is a release is a better option that taking an off balance or challenged shot.
