Basketball Plays--Cross Opposite Inbounds Play

When the ball is handed to #1 , #5 screens in for #3 and #2 cross screens for #4. #3 uses the screen and fills the bal l side wing. #4 goes to the basket cutting off the screen set by #2. #1 can inbound the bal l to either #3 or #4. #5 wil l pos t up after setting the screen for #3.

If #3 is not open for a shot , or cannot get the ball into #5 , he will make a pass to #2 , who has moved out as a safety. When #1 inbounds the ball he will hold for a count of two and then go to the back side wing , using the screen set by #4. On the pass to #2 , #5 will step up to the elbow and #2 will dribble the ball across the court and feed #1 on the back side wing. #1 may have a shot , or he may pass inside to #4 who has posted after setting the screen for #1.

All players on the court watch the official and the player inbounding the ball. The play starts when the official hands the ball to the inbounder. Taking the time to slap the ball to signal the start of the play is a waste of a part of your five seconds that you have to inbound the ball.

Under the Basket Inbound Plays

Denver--a play to save for a last second inbounds play needing a basket to tie or take the lead. It is designed for halfcourt, so part of the play is either dribbling to halfcourt and calling timeout once you gain possession (if the clock alows that much time) or calling timeout to stop the clock, then throwing that inbounds pass to halfcourt and calling timeout. Each of those scenarios must be covered at least weekly with a live clock in basketball practice. The night before a game is good because it saves on up and down and what you practice is then fresh on game night.
