I figured out how to shoot 1000+ shots really simply. The thought came to me while I was at the gym today. The concept is to MAKE 500 shots. In the process one can shoot over 1000 shots total. (Shooting 50% would = 1000 shots. Shooting 50% is unlikely. Shooting under that percentage would = 1000+ shots)
The workout consists of shooting from 7 spots on the floor and making 10 shots at each spot before continuing, equaling a total of 70 shots. (This completes one "cycle") Do this concept 7 times and one would have made 490 shots. Then, shooting 10 more shots from anywhere on the court would total to 500 shots made. As mentioned above, traditionally basketball players shoot under 50% from the field. Therefore, doing this workout would total 500 MADE shots and 1000+ ATTEMPTED shots.
The 7 spots are:
1. Right corner
2. Right bank shot area
3. Right elbow
4. Top of the Key
5. Left elbow
6. Left bank shot area
7. Left Corner
I chose to do 7 different moves every 70 shots (Do one complete 70 shot "cycle" of the first move and do a second complete "cycle" for the second move, etc.) so that I was getting a lot of repetitions practicing one move but also mixing up the complete 1000+ Shots Workout.
The 7 moves are:
1. Pump Fake
2. Sweep (Right and Left)
3. Face-up
4. Step-back
5. Pump fake and Step-Back
6. Sweep and Step-Back
7. Dribble moves into a shot (Crossover, Behind Back, Between Legs, etc. or a combo of all dribbling moves)
*The face up move is done by getting in the triple threat position, lowering the ball to get the defenders hands down, and exploding up into a shot ( This move is commonly done by Kobe Bryant)
*This workout can also be condensed/modified using the following options:
1. MAKE 250 shots creating a total of 500+ shots
2. Make 5 short range shots and five "3 Pointers" to create a total of 10 shots at each of the 7 different spots
Basketball players often hear how the great Pros and College players shoot 1000 shots a day. This is possible for all of us! Using my method I think its easier to approach this goal by MAKING 500 shots as apposed to counting to 1000 attempted shots. Also by MAKING 10 shots at each of the 7 spots and doing this a total of 7 times, all a player has to do is keep up with the 10 shots they make at each of the 7 spots.
I hope that a lot of players and coaches will like this. It's a simple yet effective way of getting the most out of a workout at the gym.
I thought this workout would best be advertised on the coaching toolbox website to reach a larger audience. The coaching toolbox has helped me so much with its drills and basketball knowledge. I just want to give back a little.
