Technique shooting drill I originally found on the Xavier newsletter. It offers you an opportunity to have your players get off a lot of shots going both left and right. You can do the drill with or without a shot fake of a three point shot on the catch.
This game works best if you have a rebounder. The purpose of the game is to get in a rhythm of catching and shooting off the drive. First round the player catches, (shot fake if you want), and takes a long dribble for a pull up shot. After the shot, player retreates behind the arc and repeats the shot. After shots are taken around to the opposite baseline, come back with dribble to the right.
With all of our off-season work, we set goals that are appropriate to the player's age--middle school, JV, Varsity, Varsity Starter, DI, etc.. and the player has to make that many shots to "win" the game. If you can get off 14 shots going both ways in this drill, I would expect a high school varsity starter to hit 60% unguarded or 17 of 28. If they make that many, they "win" this drill and then shoot a one and one free throw to move on to the next "game." We do 20 drills (with each one and one counting as a drill) to simulate a 20 game season. The player then has a win loss record at the end of the workout. 15-5 would be a good workout, 10-10 average, etc... just like a season win loss record.
We also keep track of the individuals best score on each drill and the best for our team and "all-time." I think adding this type of goal setting and competiton keeps the workouts fresh, interesting, and motivating.

This is one of our technique shooting basketball drills. We have several basketball drills that are designed to improve individual shooting and dribbling skills. You can see them in our basketball videos section.
